Food for you, food for your face: Skinfood Sheet Mask

So, I’ve been testing out Skinfood’s Everyday Green Tea Facial Mask Sheet. I’d gotten a bundle of 3 masks from Rose Rose Shop as part of my last order. After averaging out shipping costs, the bundle came out to $4.74 or about $1.60 per mask to me in the US. If you can stand the wait time of international shipping, they are extremely cost effective.

Of course, no review of mine would be complete without looking at the ingredient list from CosDNA:

Water, Glycereth-26, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Glycerin, Xanthan Gum, Cellulose gum, PPG-26-Buteth-26, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Ethylhexylglycerin, Disodium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance

The ingredient list is what attracted me to the product to be honest. There’s no butylene glycol, which is a common ingredient in many sheet masks and sometimes causes acne. Butylene glycol is only rated a 1 out of 5 for causing acne, so I’ve found it quite tolerable in the other masks that I have that include it as an ingredient. I’m curious about the claims that the tea leaf extract acts like sunscreen, it’s definitely something I would like to look up at a later date. I’m still putting on my usual SPF50 at the end of my routine.

The mask itself is a bit different from others that I’ve used. The material is thicker and textured, which seems to keep the essence from being so drippy. On my face, I couldn’t feel  difference in the texture of the mask. However, I did notice the mask constantly felt cool on my face, probably an effect of all that essence staying on my face. There was an added benefit to all that cooling sensation – visible reduction of redness and irritation. On top of the ingredients that help reduce irritation, like aloe and green tea, this was a nice effect to have that was on the same level as the MBD apple mask that I have. It’s definitely going on my re-buy list for those days when my skin needs a little extra help to calm down.

In order for me to observe a visible effect with the Skinfood mask, I had to wear it for almost an hour. Which was fine, since I was reading chapters for class homework. I spend a lot of time reading, so it’s a perfect time for me to use sheet masks (or wait for active ingredients to absorb) However, that may not be appealing to those who want a faster effect with less wear time. The first time I wore the mask for only 30 minutes and was disappointed with the results – this mask really needs time to soak into your skin and cool your skin. It’s not terribly moisturizing, I definitely layered on my favorite rosehip facial oil at the end of my routine to seal in the moisture as well as add moisture.

There wasn’t quite enough essence to use a second mask like I would with an MBD mask, but that’s not enough to stop me from buying the mask. There’s only 21 g of essence to the mask compared to the 23g in MBD’s masks.

Summary: Good mask, long wait time for effectiveness, good price, would buy again.
